JONO LEWERNE

Jono Lewarne, a student from University of West of England, Bristol, spent a day at the press designing and printing a summer project.  It was based on his own views about a book, ‘The Consolations of Philosophy’ by Alain de Botton, in which (and to use Jono’s words), ‘…he (the author) attempts to distill his considerable knowledge of philosophy and some of its most famous practitioners.’ We worked on the notion that it would be good to reveal separate texts at each ‘unfolding’ of the format until the centre-piece showed the Jono’s preferred core statement. Jono set and printed the flat letterpress sheets and then added the main text by silk screen. Here’s the result. Jono’s now famous as he’s had a Monograph published by Creative Review (Sept 09) – I haven’t (yet)…
